5 Ways to Motivate Yourself

Sometimes it can be really hard to find that get up and go and we feel less than motivated all too often. This can happen because of burnout, overwhelm or sometimes just because. The trouble is it can leave us feeling unmotivated and lazy throughout the day.

You make goals, but then you procrastinate, and they don’t get done. Perhaps you write a to do list, but it seems so giant, that you simply don’t follow through and this continues to happen again and again. So, what’s the problem?

Well, it sounds like you need some great ways to get yourself motivated.

When trying to work out the best ways to be productive, we often forget to take our emotions into account! Feelings are a fundamental part of us as people, what we do and in turn our productivity. So, if we are feeling unmotivated, then chances are, not a lot is going to happen.

However, we have 5 ways to kick start your motivation and get you moving!

Negotiate a Deal

Super simple and some may think silly, but a great way to get things done is to make deals with yourself, small or large. Think of it as a rewards system, kind of like we use in parenting.

“When I’m done with these reports, I’m going to go and enjoy an ice cream in the park.”

Fake It Until You Make It

This might sound odd, but if you don’t feel motivated or enthusiastic then just pretend you do and oddly you will find that once you get started you will feel more positive and dare I say motivated.

Remember the Good Times

If you’re feeling like tasks are insurmountable and why should you even bother, stop and think about your successes, however big or small.

Sit and write them down, in fact you may even want to consider keeping a journal as it can be easy to forget our successes and focus on the negative.

What’s Your Reason?

Sometimes you will feel a lack of motivation because you don’t know the reason behind why you are doing what you are doing. If you don’t know the reason, it can be hard to get something done.

Find things to do that you have a strong reason for doing to kick start your motivation. If you can’t find a reason for doing something, then consider…. Do you really need to do it?

Remember Your Goals

It might be a little old school, with everything being so digitalised nowadays, but grab a pen and paper, as big as you like, and write down your goals. Tape them up on your wall, next to your computer or even on the bathroom mirror. Make sure they are somewhere you can see them every day. Being able to physically see your goals and cross them off when they’re done will be a great kick start to your motivation each day.

What do you find works best to motivate yourself? Have you tried any of the above ideas? How have they worked out for you?

We’d love to know your thoughts.
